I. Working Principle of Bimetallic Thermostat

The core of bimetallic thermostat consists of two metal sheets with different coefficients of thermal expansion laminated together. When the ambient temperature changes, the difference in the expansion rate of the two metals leads to the bending deformation of the metal sheet, which triggers the mechanical contact switch:


Low temperature state: the bimetal sheet stays flat, the contact closes, the circuit conducts, and the heating pad starts to work.


Preset Temperature Threshold: When the temperature of the heating pad rises to the set value, the bimetal sheet is bent by the heat, which pushes the contact to separate and cuts off the circuit to stop heating.


Temperature fallback: when the temperature is lower than the set value, the metal plate to restore the original state, re-connect the circuit, forming a cycle of temperature control.


II. Core application advantages in pet heating pads

1. Safety guarantee

Overheating protection: directly through the physical deformation of the control circuit, without the risk of failure of electronic components, can prevent the heating pad due to control system failure leading to overheating or even cause a fire.


Power failure self-recovery: no need for continuous power supply, to avoid false action caused by power fluctuations, especially suitable for long-term energized scenarios.


2. Strong environmental adaptability

Resistant to humidity and dust, adapting to the environment where pets may cause liquid splashing (e.g. knocking over the water basin) or hair accumulation.


Wide range of working temperature (20℃~180℃), can be customized with different temperature values to meet the different needs of climbing pets, puppies, elderly cats, etc.


3. Economy and Stability

Simple structure, no complex circuit, low production cost, suitable for mass production.


Mechanical life of up to 100,000 times or more, no device aging caused by the attenuation of precision.



III. Future Development Trends

Despite the gradual popularization of intelligent temperature control (e.g. Wi-Fi remote control), bimetallic switches will remain as the basic protective layer in pet heating equipment due to their irreplaceable safety and redundancy value. Some high-end products have adopted the “electronic temperature control + bimetallic mechanical protection” dual program, taking into account the precise regulation and intrinsic safety.
